OFFICE OF SOCIAL AFFAIRS

Janet S. Panuelo was sworn into office on June 20, 2012, as the Administrator of the Office of Social Affairs for Pohnpei State by Governor John Ehsa in the AG’s Conference Room, Peilapalap, Kolonia, Pohnpei.

Those present to witness the oath of office included the Lt. Governor, Hon. Marcello Peterson; Chief of Staff, Mr. Vallerio Hallens; the Governor’s cabinet members; Congressman David Panuelo, her husband; the Social Affairs Office staff; family members and friends.

A prayer from Reverend Oliver Johnny, Pohnpei State Election Commissioner, formally opened the program followed by remarks from Governor Ehsa.

In his remarks, Governor Ehsa thanked Mrs. Panuelo for accepting the nomination and further thanked the 8th Pohnpei Legislature for their unanimous support, as reflected in the confirmation of the nomination.

Governor Ehsa further acknowledged the support of the cabinet members and the Social Affairs Staff in keeping up with the office work up to this point.

After the remark, Mrs. Panuelo took the oath of office.  The oath of office was administered by Governor Ehsa while Senator David Panuelo held the Bible for the new Administrator.

Part of the pledge revisited upholding the Constitution of the Pohnpei State Government and protecting the Culture and Tradition.

The ceremony ended with expressions of congratulations from those present, which Mr. Heinrick Stevenson translated into Pohnpeian as “Soko Kowe”. Light refreshments, prepared by the Social Affairs staff, were served to all those present.

Though short, the program was widely spread.  It was prerecorded for broadcasting purposes, both video and audio.

Mrs. Janet Panuelo was Special Assistant to Governor on Social Affairs from July 2011 to February 2012, when the contract ceased, along with the other cabinets members during the transition period.  Now she is back as the Administrator after the 8th Legislature confirmed her nomination last month.
